How to Install a Shower Head
| To install a shower head: |
|||||||
| 1) |
Remove the old shower head from the shower arm by turning the head counter-clockwise. (You may wish to protect the old head from wrench marks by wrapping it with a cloth) |
||||||
| 2) |
Wrap Teflon "plumber's tape" around the threads of the shower arm. Pull the tape firmly, wrapping several layers of tape tightly around the threads.
| 3) |
Manually thread the new shower head onto the shower arm and turn clockwise one or two turns.
| 4) |
Before tightening, cover the shower head with a cloth to protect from wrench marks.
| 5) |
Using a wrench, tighten the shower head by turning clockwise. Remove the cloth and check for leaks. If leaks are found, remove the shower head, re-tape the arm and reinstall the head until no leaks are found. |
||||||
| (Note: Some older showers may have a combination shower head / shower arm where the shower head is not removable unless the arm is also removed. If this is the case you will need to replace the shower arm with a standard 1/2" shower arm with threads on each end. These are readily available at most hardware stores. ) | |||||||
